This summer, there were a number of West Contra Costa Unified School District students who interned across the East Bay in different health settings. Each student presented about their internship at a culminating expo and host appreciation event on July 30th in El Cerrito. We look forward to their continued success and participation in health careers!

West Contra Costa Unified School District College & Career Pathways Program for our Summer Work-Based Learning Showcase
In a light filled room of Costa Costa College, stood dozens of eager students poised to showcase their summer internship. Each one with a new perspective of work and learning. Over the course of 2 hours on Tuesday evening parents, employers, educators and volunteers went from table to table viewing presentations and listening to the personal experiences of each student who participated in the West Contra Costa Unified School District College & Career Pathways Program this summer.

Demonstration of Mastery- Oakland Unified school District
On July 26th over 300 students- along with their families, educators, community partners, and local employers- gathered to showcase what they experienced and learned through a summer internship. The internships occurred in the Oakland area focusing on industries of health, social justice, technology, and entrepreneurship.

On July 13th over 100 student interns throughout California gathered in Downtown Oakland to attend the annual Health Career Connections workshop. This annual event brings together educators, employers, and community partners to expose the students to various levels of the health care industry.
During the workshop students heard from several speakers including our very own Jeff Oxendine, UC Berkeley School of Public Health, who spoke on the importance of self care and meditation. The speakers for the day also included Dr. Anh Thu Bui, LifeLong Medical Care - Ashby Health Center and a panel on Primary Care Careers and Education with Dr. Tomás Magaña, La Clínica de La Raza & FACES for the Future Coalition, D.L. Poole, Lifelong Medical Care, Dr. Ashby Wolfe, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and Priyanka Athavale, UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program (MS, MD).
Each speaker spoke of thier individual path to medical careers, their personal accomplishments and trials, and where they find themselves now and in the future. Check out more photos from the event by clicking here.
